May 24, 2024

Some say that rooftop tents (RTTs) can be a safety issue for children, especially infants. However, others say that RTTs are safe for children who are old enough to go camping because they have an enclosed interior. If you do choose to use an RTT with a child, you can take some precautions to ensure their safety, such as:
Secure the ladder: Make sure the ladder is secure before anyone steps on it
Secure doors and windows: Fully zip all mesh windows closed, especially with young children or infants
Have a light source: Have a light source handy for going up and down the ladder at night
Use carabiners: Bind the zippers together with small carabiners on the interior zippers of the windows and larger carabiners on the outside zippers of the main door
Acclimate your child: Set up the tent in your driveway and spend a few hours inside with your child

Some other tips for using an RTT with a child include:
Don't leave your child alone in the tent
Use a tent big enough to fit a pack n play if your child is used to sleeping in a crib or bassinet
If your baby can crawl, make sure an adult is between them and the tent door
