How To Setup Roof Top Tent Camper Shell

Here are some steps for setting up a hard shell roof top tent on a camper shell:
Start at a corner
Insert a bolt through a small plate
Slide the plate into the rail
Add another small plate
Lift the tent box
Position the bolts so one drops down on each side of the roof bar
Repeat at each corner
Adjust the tent box and car roof
Use a longer plate and nuts to tighten against the roof bar
Repeat at all four corners

To open the tent, undo the buckles at one end and push upwards. Most hard-shell roof top tents use a pop-up method, where unlatching the latches will pop the tent into place. This process usually takes about 60 seconds.

Roof top tents are designed to be quick to set up, and typically include a ladder and poles that can be deployed after opening. The tent fabric, floor, and poles are usually sturdy enough to withstand stormy weather.

If the tent opens upwards, it's best to position it so the opening faces the passenger or driver side. This allows you to fully open the tent and still access the back of the car.
