How to store a rooftop tent after disassembly
Feb 10, 2025
Rooftop tents need to be properly stored after disassembly to ensure that they are still in good condition for the next use. Here are some tips on how to store a rooftop tent properly:
Cleaning and drying
1. Clean the tent: Before storing it, make sure the inside and outside of the tent are clean. Use a soft brush and warm water to gently clean the outside of the tent. Do not use any chemical cleaners or bleach to avoid damaging the tent material.
2. Dry the tent: After cleaning, dry the tent completely. Any remaining moisture can cause mold to grow, so make sure the inside and outside of the tent are thoroughly dried.
Folding and packing
1. Disassemble the tent: Find the main part of the tent, usually the tent itself and the tent frame. Follow the instructions for the tent or the steps provided by the manufacturer to remove the frame from the tent. Make sure not to use too much force to avoid damaging the tent or the frame.
2. Fold the tent: Fold the tent, usually by folding the tent from one corner to the other. Then continue to fold or roll the tent until it becomes a compact package. Make sure the folded tent is flat, without gaps or wrinkles.
3. Storing the tent: Use a special tent bag or a dry, breathable bag you prepare yourself to store the tent. Put the folded tent into the bag, making sure there are no loose parts. Close the bag, you can use a rope or zipper to secure it.
Storage environment
1. Dry and cool place: The best place to store the tent is a dry and cool place, avoid direct sunlight or humid environment. Make sure the tent bag is dry, clean, and stored with the tent. There is no need to put any heavy objects on the tent to prevent compression and damage.
2. Avoid heavy pressure: After the tent is completely dry and folded for storage, try not to put other items on the tent to avoid permanent fatigue of the bend of the waterproof strip material and degumming.
3. Drying regularly: Take out the tent regularly or irregularly to dry it (avoid direct sunlight) for half a day, reorganize it, and then fold it for storage. Doing so can prevent the tent fabric from getting moldy and sticking, and can also prevent permanent fatigue of the waterproof pressure-sealed strips at the bends of the tent, thus extending the overall service life of the tent.
4. Avoid compressed storage: After cleaning the tent, it is not advisable to compress it in the original storage bag.
Through the above steps, you can properly store and preserve the rooftop tent so that it will be in good condition when you use it next time.
